Definitions
Cer. Precinct - Ceremonial Precinct
An architectural complex of buildings and public space presumably used for public and private religious ceremonies. The Vatican in Rome is an example of a modern ceremonial precinct.

Dis. Village - Dispersed Village
A village characterized by buildings that are spread out over the landscape. Dispersed villages generally have no well defined center or core.

Hamlet - Hamlet
A very small collection of buildings forming a village. Hamlets are the smallest unit of communal living.
 
Nuc. Village - Nucleated Village
A village characterized by a tightly clustered arrangement of buildings with a very well defined central district or core.

Prov. Center - Provincial Center
A community that, because of its size, or the opulence of its architecture appears to be the administrative center of a province. A county seat is a provincial center in our country.
 
Reg. Center - Regional Center
A community that, because of its size and the opulence of its architecture appears to be the administrative center of a region larger than a local province. A region could consist of several provinces. A state capitol would be a modern example of a regional center in our country.

Salt Station - Salt Station
An area used for the manufacture of salt. They are usually located close to natural mineral springs that discharge salt-loaded water. The water was collected, allowed to evaporate in shallow basins, and the salt left behind was collected and traded throughout the region. Salt was a critical resource in this land-locked, hot, arid environment.
