Introduction to the Software 7 - Can I Access from Other Computers

Can I access the project from other computers? The short answer to this question is yes, but with some provisos. There are a few things to keep in mind when you try accessing the Anthro 3 materials from other computers. The first is that you will only be able to work with ALL of the computer materials if you are using a Macintosh computer, since applications like Hypercard will only run on a Macintosh. You will be able to access all of the web pages from any computer, and you will be able to run the QuickTime movies on any Macintosh or Windows system as long as either QuickTime or the QuickTime for Windows Player are installed respectively.

Many of you will want to try accessing the materials from home. This is possible, but you must have either a SLIP (Serial Line Internet Protocol) or a PPP (Point to Point Protocol) connection via modem from home in order to use Netscape or any other graphical browser. If you connect through the campus modem pool, you can run Lynx (a text only web browser) in a terminal session, but you will not be able to see graphics, download exercises, or read tables. If you have an account with E-World or America Online (AOL), you can connect using their web browser, but you may not be able to read tables. If you want to try connecting from home, contact George Michaels via email (you may click here to do so right now) to find out if you will be able to connect, and what you will need to do to configure your system.
